Notes
on Sound and Video Cards
 |
a.)
Problems with the NVIDIA RIVA TNT
For Windows 98/ME/2000/ and XP users:
This card is only supported using Nvidia Detonator drivers
Version 28.32.
b.) Problems with
the KYRO Chipsets
In 640x480 the Pause menu overlay will appear to be missing
part of the background. To fix this issue, set the resolution
to 800x600 or higher. This will not affect game play in any
way.
c.) Problems with
GeForce2, DX8.1 and WinXP
The use of Alt-Tab is not recommended under this configuration.
During configuration testing, the available versions of DX8.1
and GeForce2 drivers did not support Alt-Tab functionality.
Updates are expected for DX8.1 and/or the GeForce2 drivers.
e.) Audio Troubleshooting
If you hear a crackling noise while the game is playing, or
the music and other sounds become garbled, try modifying soccer.ini
file in your install directory. Change:
AUDIO_SAFEMODE = 0 to AUDIO_SAFEMODE = 1
This has been
observed on the following cards:
Diamond monster sound MX400
ESS Canyon 3D with chipset ESS Canyon 3D ES1970S-3D

Improving Game Speed
There are several ways by which you can speed up the overall
FIFA FOOTBALL 2003 experience:
1.)
Choose a larger install - the more data that is on your hard
drive, the less time your PC needs to spend accessing the
CD.
2 .) Adjust the Detail Level in the Render Options on the
Options screen - this allows the user to reduce graphical
quality in order to achieve better performance.
3 .) Disable the radar on the Options screen.
4 .) Select the "On the Pitch" sound effects mix
on the Options screen.
For Windows 98/ME
users:
FIFA FOOTBALL
2003 performance under Windows 98 will be enhanced when DMA
access is enabled for the hard drive and CD ROM. If DMA is
not enabled you may experience frequent short pauses during
gameplay. To ensure that DMA is enabled, follow these steps:
i) Open up the
Control Panel from the Settings menu in the Start menu. Double-click
on the System icon. Select the Device Manager tab. Open the
CD-ROM selection, highlight the device, and click the Properties
button. Select the Settings tab and ensure the DMA checkbox
is checked, click the OK button.
ii) Now, while still in the Device Manager, open the Disk
drives selection, highlight the hard drive device, and click
the Properties button. Select the Settings tab. Ensure the
DMA checkbox is checked, click the OK button.
iii) Now click the OK button to close the Device Manager.
If DMA access to the CD ROM or hard drive was not previously
enabled, you will have to restart your computer.

c) Modem
Call Waiting
We recommend that call waiting be disabled, as we have experienced
some problems with it during modem games. Specifically, call
waiting can disrupt modem games already in progress.
d) Notes on Internet

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (or higher) installed for
Internet Matchmaker to launch correctly.
